Klotild Palace

The project in numbers:

  • Net floor area: 12.000 m2
  • 230 cameras
  • 1500 detectors
  • 2 control centres

The task:

Planning of fire detection and alarm system of an 5-star luxury hotel under historic preservation and their central supervision solutions. Planning of security camera system and video management solution and intrusion detection.

About the project:

With the adherence of the strict rules of historic preservation and the consideration of the above-average requirements, interior design expectations of the luxury hotel, planning of a very high quality, exceptionally reliable life and property protection system.

Initial conditions:

The Klotild palaces built on the turn of the century are definitive, iconic buildings of the Budapest inner city. Historically significant, excellent examples of the artificial heritage of Budapest which are thus under historical preservation and parts of the UNESCO world heritage. The southern Klotild palace was converted into a 5-star luxury hotel by the investor and opened it under the name of Matild Palace in 2021 with 111 elegantly set rooms and 19 suites. This luxury hotel is operated by the Marriott hotel chain with extreme high quality requirements in mind.

Challenges:

During the half year of planning, the biggest challenge was the building and its new function to fulfill. The aspects of historic preservation together with the expectations of the luxury hotel were to be harmonized with the applicable fire safety rules, industry regulations in order to successfully obtain the administrative authorisations. Contrary to the green field investments we had to work with already established spaces, parameters difficult or impossible to alter, preserving the segmentation of the building parts already available and that of those envisioned by the client, providing the conditions for the future operational and maintenance tasks.

Solution of H1 Systems:

Our design concepts and systems meet the strictest hotel standards. From the first moment of planning, we took great care of the aesthetic design of the guest areas. Keeping the goal in mind that the protection of the guests are to be provided for in a way that they recognize the least possible from it, while fully adhering to the legal requirements. With smoke detector sockets that can be recessed into the suspended ceiling, we were able to significantly reduce the “protrusion” of the detectors. We managed to provide an aesthetic solution for the strict interior design expectations with uniquely sized, unique designed, hidden mounted aspiration smoke detectors. When installing these detectors, the evaluation units have been located in the serving areas, so that guests experience only a minimum interaction with the service personnel during maintenance.

In addition to the fire alarm covering the whole building (12,000 m2), a special standard (redundant, uninterruptible, fireproof) evacuation alarm speaker system has been developed. The entire infrastructure is combined with an integrated monitoring solution which visualizes all the devices in the system (1500 peripheral devices – sensing and signalling devices) on the floor plan of the building, facilitating the accurate and quick identification of signals and intervention.

In addition to life protection solutions, an intrusion alarm system and a camera system with 230 cameras have been developed. The surveillance was solved with video management software, the display of camera feeds and recordings was made possible on a large video wall in the so-called “security” room. The integrated fire alarm and emergency alarm speaker monitoring system is also located in the security room, but this system was also mirrored to the central room of the maintenance staff for efficient operation, because in the performance of operational tasks, the local maintenance personnel face a serious task, in case of a possible failure, false fire alarm, the first intervention unit is usually the hotel maintenance staff. A luxury hotel when being designed, usually, balances hotel comfort and life protection. It is important to ensure a five-star peaceful rest and to guarantee the safety of the guests. All this with maximum respect for the age and character of the building.

We thank our project managers and executors for their disciplined, coordinated work!
