Modernisation of access control system on the sites of Richter Gedeon

Modernisation of the access control system and the adoption of centralised data storage country-wide on 4 sites

  • 600 modified points of entry
  • 100 card readers
  • 25 reconstructed gate houses

Circumstances:

The H1 Systems Kft. received an assignment to the modernisation of the access control system of the Richter Gedeon Nyrt. The access of the colleagues to the plant sites was provided by old SW500 devices which became outdated by now, the material procurement became difficult thus the replacement and upgrade of the system had its time. Our colleagues prepared a study for the modernisation in 2017 in which they suggested possible devices for the modernisation of the system.

Challenges:

When preparing the construction plan we defined the device topology and quantities and we assessed the actual operating conditions. A substantial IT background had to be established for the modernisation of the system during the construction. For the installation of the uniquely developed SEAWING Integrated Solution system we had to comply with the GDPR data processing directives introduced at that time when processing the personal data of several thousand employees. The migration of the data from the former system after data cleaning had to be provided during uninterrupted operation in anonymized form, complying with the directives, without data loss. In addition, the system also had to comply with the operational safety regulations of the Richter. While the earlier SW500 devices were capable of standalone operation by storing data locally, we had to avoid the stopping of the access control devices in case of malfunction since the multi-shift production cannot be impeded by any obstacle in the access control. A further challenge is during the installation that we have only a short time in special areas, two or three hours to install and program the new devices. In the factory area, during continuous production, we have to provide the replacement of the operational devices while complying with the regulations for clean, sterile areas, with the lowest possible outage.

Solutions of H1 Systems:

The replaced devices themselves also provide solution for increasing operational safety. The SW500s were capable of operating offline since they store the data locally – thus in case of a disruption of connection not all access points cease to function at the same time. However, in case of the topology of the new system only the central network hub stores the information, thus if a failure occurs between the control unit and the modules, the given gateways cannot register the movement data. So every gate has a separate module from which most will directly have a “brain”. This way the chance of outage due to failures can be greatly reduced, so in the worst case only one or two gateways will be out of service. The main objective was the central storage of the data. The system passes information directly to the SAP so the working time registration operates automatically. Since chemical production takes place in the plant, the safety of the employees is a primary consideration. With our system it is easy to track which employees are there in a given location. Gathering points were also established also due to safety reasons. In addition to the port constructions currently under way, in order to provide the person and cargo traffic the temporarily installed access control devices offered the solution. During the construction, after the clean area locks these main gate posts are the most exciting tasks because during the works we have to cooperate with other industries such as pavement cutters, stonemasons, joiners. Due to the emergence of the COVID-19 we have to adjust to the increased production of the medicine plant and we work on site adhering to the even stricter hygienic measures and regulations. We can utilize our experiences acquired at Richter Gedeon Nyrt. in the future mainly at such potential clients where larger access control system is to be installed. We recommend the Hungarian-developed device for those wanting to use a comprehensive system with the establishment of more than even 600 access points or for those who need individually tailored developments.
