Energy Management (EMS)

Savings with H1 Systems consumption profile audit

Consumption profiling is a key issue in the development of conscious energy management and cost- effective operations. Particularly in the data center sector, but in fact for all large consumers, be it industrial facilities, large catering outlets, sports facilities, malls or office buildings. Of the many benefits available, the most obvious is that having an accurate profile of our customers, with improved predictability, we can make significant savings on energy service charges for energy retailers. Prices based on unaudited data, set at the maximum power plus safety margin, are invariably much lower than what can be achieved by knowing the consumption curves reviewed by H1 Systems’ experts, while still maintaining safe operation of course. The more information we can obtain or obtain by proxy, the more years of data we can work with, the more accurate our model will be and the greater the savings we can make on both the grid usage charge and the kilowatt per hour charge.

Technical condition and process assessment is an important part of our profiling

When analysing the data in our model, we regularly find elements such as sudden load changes that need to be investigated. We gather the available information and determine whether it is a one-off impact or a trend, whether we have found a business explanation or whether a technical root cause analysis is required. H1 Systems can even provide the mechanical engineers, IT engineers and technicians required for a professional technical review of a data center, working with local operators to assess the hardware and software causes and later even assist with optimization. It is often not so much the obsolescence of technical equipment as the lack of coordination in its operation that causes additional costs.

Consumption monitoring with EMS system implementation

While consumption profiling provides a snapshot that can be used to define future projects, if you want to see this data in real time and take control of the energy management of your installation, the solution is to implement a targeted EMS system.

H1 Systems has successfully implemented energy management systems from a number of manufacturers in environments of varying complexity, and can also provide operational support if required. Tailoring an EMS system in complex environments is a particularly challenging professional task, as energy monitoring can cover gas and electricity, solar efficiency, wind energy, gas and diesel engines and water use. In addition to the professional definition of energy performance indicators and other KPIs, it is also necessary to develop best operating practices, which are properly documented and communicated through the formulation of policies and work instructions.
